something different...

Not sure what I was going for here. I started out with a simple contour drawing, but that wasn't enough, so I did a bit of hatching. I still wasn't feelin' it. Then I went a little crazy with the brush pen and gray marker to arrive at this. The process felt good, not sure about the outcome.

This is my son's new kitten Hermione. We adopted her shortly after our other cat had died. She's extremely feisty, but hilarious.

I think I used up 3 microns filling in the black. But I liked the texture versus coloring the black in with a marker.

This is our Ikea bookshelf. Probably one of the most expensive pieces of furniture we've invested in. Sad, I know. I collect books faster than I can read them. I kind of took over the lower 6 shelves with the more relevant books. Then I filled the upper 2 shelves on the left with MY art stuff. Then my wife walked in and wonder aloud whether there would be any room left for HER art supplies. Being as that was the major reason we had purchased the bookshelf.

Well, let's just say I stopped what I was doing, consolidated what I could of the supplies, and got out of the way.

I guess I thought the shelves were going to be bigger.

My son collaged this turkey during his after school art class taught by my lovely wife (BlueLucyStudios.com). His legs were actually longer, but it wouldn't fit in the scanner.

I just realized I'd never drawn a fish. I tried to find a photo of an interesting creature in its natural environment. I think I did this dude a favor...he was much uglier in the picture.

Artists to watch for...

I just wanted to take this opportunity to draw attention to an incredible artist, locowhiteboy. I've been following his drawings on flickr for quite a while now and he has finally started a blog. So go check him out.

Also, unless you've been hiding under a rock lately, you've probably heard about Gabi's new project Urban Sketchers. Trying to describe the talented people contributing would not do it justice. If you haven't already, go check it out. That is where I discovered the work of Tin Salamunic. His work is incredible. His drawings appear simple and consist mostly of contour drawings with with maybe one or two colors. Amazing stuff really.
