Not sure what I was going for here. I started out with a simple contour drawing, but that wasn't enough, so I did a bit of hatching. I still wasn't feelin' it. Then I went a little crazy with the brush pen and gray marker to arrive at this. The process felt good, not sure about the outcome.
Here is the original cell phone photo that I took for future drawing reference.
Here's what it looked like after a little manipulation...goin' for that lomo look.

I think it's great. love the fire escape ladder. That's a bad to the bone cell phone you got if you're taking snapshots like that!!
Thanks loco. My phone is dying a slow death. It does have a decent camera as far as phones go...1.3 megapixels...double my first digital camera.
my motto is use what you got... why people would spend thousands on a camera is beyond me... i guess thats why i'm not a photographer. i would be in the thrift/pawn shops looking for a cheap point and shoot though. the photo and rendering is top notch.
I really like this drawing and totally like the fact you continued to 'hatch','brush', etc.
I, too, take quick shots with my cellphone camera for reference later. I think it's an advantage to have the phone image be slightly inferior...frees one up to wallow in the process...of hatching/brushing/scratching!
Nice work throughout your blog.
